North Sydney Girls High School Performance Space Upgrade

North Sydney Girls High School Performance Space Upgrade

Conversion of the existing Gymnasium at North Sydney Girls High School into a Performance Space. Major works included the replacement and upgrade of electrical, communications and audio visual services, installation of a ‘sprung’ timber dance floor, construction of a timber framed tiered seating area, installation of solid hardwood timber sliding doors running the length of the Performance Space, construction of a new changeroom along with the construction of a new General Assistant’s shed.

A key element of the project was providing DDA compliant entries to the Performance Space and ensuring access throughout the space was compliant. This involved the construction of several concrete threshold ramps, the conversion of existing non-compliant concrete tiered seating into a compliant stairway, installation of handrails, TGSI’s, stair nosing’s and signage. A platform lift was also installed to allow for access between the ground level Performance Space and raised Tiered Seating.

The Performance Space is located in the centre of the School grounds and all works were completed within Term 2 School semester, meaning there were constantly both staff and students in close proximity to the construction site. As such, we were required to install secure hoarding’s to the perimeter of the site and closely monitor deliveries and vehicle and pedestrian access to site. This was completed successfully with no incidents.
