This project involved the erection of steel scaffolding around the perimeter of School House including a cantilevered scaffold around Holtermann’s Tower, stripping of all existing slate roof tiles, sarking and battens, and installation of a new Welsh Slate roof to over 1100m2 total roof surface area.
The new roof also comprised all new copper downpipes, gutters and valleys along with new lead ridge and hip capping’s and lead weathering’s to all original sandstone gable ends. All vegetation was also removed from the façade of Holtermann’s Tower.
A substantial portion of the work was completed in a live School environment in close proximity to students and teachers, with no incidents reported throughout. Additional scope was added to the project after commencing works on site which involved repainting all existing painted surfaces which was successfully completed prior to the original practical completion date.
