Wombeyan Caves Tourism Precinct

The Wombeyan Caves Tourism Precinct development involved the construction of selected buildings, roadway and infrastructure upgrades, including:
– Construction of the new Kui Kiosk building;
– Construction of the new Barmah Amenities building;
– Design & construction of the new Victoria Arch viewing platform platform on the limestone hillside within the archway entry to Wombeyan Caves.;
– Incoming power supply & substation upgrades to the Northern and Southern region of the precinct;
– Bulk earthworks; including 2,500m3 excavations adjacent to Wombeyan Creek;
– Major civil construction works comprising:
– Upgrade of existing sealed roads through the precinct (approx. 1,200 m2)
– Construction of new sealed and unsealed roads through the precinct and camping areas (approx. 6,500 m2)
– Construction of new pedestrian and vehicular concrete pavements (approx. 1,700 m2)
– Limestone and limestone clad retaining walls (approx. 300 m2);
– Installation of stormwater infrastructure works throughout the precinct (approx. 400 m);
– Installation of new site water and sewer services to the Northern and Southern regions of the precinct.
– Exposed aggregate concrete paths to the Victoria Arch cave system adjacent the Wombeyan Caves Creek

The brief for the above works was to construct them with minimal disturbance to the surrounding Karst environment, and protection measures installed to ensure that sensitive rock formations and geological features including the Stromatolytes in the vicinity of the Victoria Arch Landing and Steps were protected at all times during the works.
