Narrabeen Swimming Centre

Narrabeen Swimming Centre

NSW Department of the Arts, Sport & Recreation

The concept behind the Sydney Academy of Sport Aquatic Centre project was to provide a new swimming pool facility building over the top of an existing pool as a supplementary recreational and training facility to complement the existing gymnasium adjacent.

An additional facility provided to the original Aquatic Centre was a Recovery Room which allows elite level athletes and sporting teams to recover in the hot and cold (chiller) spas and contrast showers for muscle fatigue recovery. The existing highly dilapidated building was dismantled and a new building was built over the existing pool.

The design involves a high level wavy style ceiling and roof with an abundance of high level windows to the north and full height and width windows punching light into the building giving it an outdoor feel.

The high class standards of finish set off the architectural features and aesthetics experienced within this facility. From the pool hall, recovery room and amenities, this building is a pleasure to visit.
