Shore School Stage 3 Boarding House Refurbishment

Shore School Stage 3 Boarding House Refurbishment

Works were undertaken within the boarding areas of Hodges House (2 x floors) and School House (1 x floor).  This included the demolition and refurbishment of 4 x student bathrooms/showers/change rooms, 1 x laundry, dormitory accommodation for 77 students, two self-contained units and several common areas.

The building layout was also reconfigured to create 2 x new Assistant House Master residences including new bathrooms, kitchen and bedroom joinery, new finishes. The refurbishment included an upgrade of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, security, fire and data to comply with current standards, new Cbus Control systems, floor finishes, substantial wall and ceiling replacement and extensive structural alterations, new blinds throughout along with external timer operated roller blinds to provide increased energy efficiency to the boarding house.

An electrical and fire services upgrade was also completed to the House Master residence, which involved removing floorboards to allow services reticulation, reinstating floorboards and new floor finishes and extensive painting and patchwork. These works were completed within the 9-day access period with no issue.

In addition to the above, extensive external works were completed which involved trenching through sandstone in order to create a cable path between multiple buildings on the School grounds, roof repairs to 2 x buildings, removal of redundant external services and patching/repointing of stonework to the building facades.

The works were completed while the students were on their Summer holidays, within an extremely tight timeframe of approx. 10 weeks.
